Equifax Data Breach
Equifax recently experienced a data breach that has potentially impacted 143 million Americans. As a consumer and a member of the credit union, we want you to be aware of this situation.
Equifax has set up a website at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/potential-impact/ where consumers can check to see if they may have been impacted. You will be asked to enter your last name and the last six digits of your Social Security number. Then you will be told whether your information may have been impacted.
Please take a moment to read through the information on the website and check to see if your data was potentially compromised. If you have any questions, please call the Equifax customer response team at (866) 447-7559.
PFCU does not have specific knowledge about whose information has been compromised; however, we do not use Equifax to pull credit on our members. Equifax will be mailing paper notices to those individuals whose credit card numbers or dispute documents were affected.
Be extra diligent in the coming weeks and months if you are receiving any calls or emails that you don’t expect regarding credit monitoring services or other “offers” to help. Unfortunately scammers and other hooligans tend to ride the coattails of these bad situations to try to dupe people into other types of scams.
